preparing for the competitions

The Need to Prepare

Preparing for the competitions is absolutely necessary if you want to maximize your chances for success.

When you take the initial pre-selection test, just passing is not sufficient to insure that you will pass on the the next stage.

You will be competing against everyone else who is taking the tests.

Just Passing is Not Good Enough

Here is an example from a recent competition.

The European Commission wants to fill 100 posts for Administrators (Grade AD5) in the area of Agriculture.

  • several thousand people applied to take the pre-selection test.

  • from the several thousand who take the pre-selection tests, the 420 highest scorers will be selected to move on to the next stage - the written test.

  • from those who take the written test, the 180 highest scorers will be selected to move on the the next stage - the interview.

  • after the interviews, the 120 who score highest on the interview will be put on the reserve list.

  • from these 120, 100 will normally receive permanent posts.

As you can see from this example, you must prepare well for the pre-selection test - the competition is tough. You must score high enough to be selected to move on to the next stage.

How to Prepare

This website has been set up specifically to help you prepare for the pre-selection test.

The subscription based portion of this website will help you prepare by:

This will let you know which areas you should concentrate on.

  • providing you with Strategies & Tips. This section will coach you on how to take each exam. What are the key do's and don'ts for these tests.

  • summary of EU Facts. Regardless of how well you do on the other tests, you must at least pass the EU Knowledge test. This section will tell you what information you should learn. It will allow you to avoid having to read hundreds of pages of boring books on EU treaties and policies by giving you just the key facts you need to know.
